Tree Study Though the Seasons

Back in March the boys and I decided that we would study a tree or bush in our yard through all four seasons. After much debate we decided on this one. We are not sure if it is a bush or a tree?

Upon first glance this bush looks rather boring and dry. There are no green leaves or even much in the way of buds. Look closer this tree has so much character. It has survived the winter and is just waiting for new life!

Our plans were to study it each week and make a notebook page about the bushes changes. Well unfortunately we picked a tree that is a later budding tree. Over the last four weeks there have been very little change.

Close up of the branches. I love how tangled and gnarled they are.

The ground around the base of the bush.

The bush has grown around a post. My mom planted this tree years ago. We are not sure what it is, but we do know that it has orange trumpet flowers on it.

Watching for buds to form.

Our notebooking pages:

Justin’s page: He drew two bushes since there is a smaller bush next to the one we are observing. He also drew a picture of one of the branches up close and decided he wanted an actual piece of the bush on his page. Justin also prefers to use only a pencil. No colors.

Kaden’s page: His is more colorful. He even added the little purple flowers at the base of the bush.

My page: I am not an artist by any means but I think I did a fairly good job!
