The Choice by Robert Whitlow

About the Book

One young woman. Two very different roads. The choice will change everything.

Even as a pregnant, unwed teen in 1974, Sandy Lincoln wanted to do the right thing. But when an ageless woman approached her in a convenience store with a mysterious prophecy and a warning, doing the right thing became even more unclear. She made the best choice she could . . . and has lived with the consequences.

More than thirty years later, a pregnant teen has come into her life, and Sandy’s long-ago decision has come back to haunt her. The stakes rise quickly, leaving Sandy with split seconds to choose once more. But will her choice decision bring life . . . or death?

My Thoughts

The Choice is a very poignant story of a young girl named Sandy who ends up pregnant during her senior year in high school in 1974.  Roe vs. Wade had occurred one year prior and Sandy’s boyfriend and his parents are urging her to have an abortion.

Sandy is torn about what she should do and ultimately her parents decide to send her to stay with her Aunt Linda.

On the way to her Aunt’s house, Sandy stops for gas at a convenience center and receives a strange prophecy which only confuses Sandy more about what she should do about her unborn baby.

She ultimately makes the best decision she knows and goes on with her life.

The second part of the story finds Sandy working as a high school teacher and coaching cheerleading. One of the students ends up pregnant and Sandy has become her confidante. This starts a chain of events that find Sandy once again in a very difficult place.

The Choice addresses some very difficult topics, teenage pregnancy, abortion and adoption without being preachy or judgmental.
