The Stars Shine Bright~Book Review

The Stars Shine Bright

The Stars Shine Bright~Sibella Giorello

About the Book

After the FBI suspends her for bending its rules, Special Agent Raleigh Harmon is looking for a chance to redeem her career and re-start her life.

Sent undercover to a thoroughbred horse track, Raleigh takes on a double life to find out who’s fixing the races. But when horses start dying and then her own life is threatened, Raleigh realizes something bigger—and more sinister—is ruining Emerald Meadows.

She’s never felt more alone.

Her one contact with the FBI is Special Agent Jack Stephanson, a guy who seems to jump from antagonistic to genuine friend depending on the time of day. And she can’t turn to her family for support. They’re off-limits while she’s undercover, and her mother isn’t speaking to her anyway, having been confined to a mental hospital following a psychotic breakdown. Adding insult to her isolation, Raleigh’s fiancé wants them to begin their life together—now—precisely when she’s been ordered not to be herself.

With just days left before the season ends, Raleigh races to stop the killing and find out who’s behind the track’s trouble, all the while trying to determine if Jack is friend or foe, and whether marrying her fiancé will make things better—or worse.

Raleigh is walking through the darkest night she’s faced, searching for a place where the stars shine bright.

My Thoughts

Raleigh Harmon is back for another adventure of danger, suspense and a bit of romance in the The Stars Shine Bright.

I had the opportunity to first get to know Raleigh in the previous book, The Mountains Bow Down. Raleigh had been suspended for bending the rules on the Alaskan cruise investigation. The FBI has decided to give her another opportunity to do some undercover work.

In The Stars Shine Bright Raleigh is working undercover in Seattle, Washington to discover who is fixing horse race betting and killing horses. She is posing as the niece of one of the stable owners in order to solve these crimes.

An attempt was made on Raleigh’s life while she was spending the night with one of the sick horses. Someone locked her in  the stall with the horse and there was a fire. Many people are suspect and there has even been talk of mob activity.

Raleigh tends to bend the rules which could land her in a lot of trouble not only with her boss but with the safety of her own life.

FBI agent Jack Stephanson is back and is her case agent for her current assignment and her only contact with the FBI. Raleigh is not happy about it and there are definite sparks that fly between them.

There is also Raleigh’s fiancé back in Virginia, DeMott who suddenly decides that they should start their life together, but with Raleigh being undercover that seems impossible.

I love the descriptions in the book. The author gives very descriptive details. I can just imagine the smell of the horse barns and horses. The scenes in this story are very descriptive.

Even though The Stars Shine Bright is the fifth book in the series, it a stand alone book. You will not have any trouble jumping in and getting to know the characters!
