Unending Devotion {Book Review}

Unending Devotion~ Jody Hedlund

About the Book

Michigan, 1883

In Her Darkest Hours, Is He the Man She Needs?

Lily Young longs to find her lost sister or will die trying. Heedless of any danger, she searches logging camps and towns, posing as a photographer’s assistant. And then she arrives in Harrison, Michigan–and the sights of Connell McCormick.

Connell is determined to increase the fortune of his lumber-baron father and figures as long as he’s living an upright life, that’s what matters. But when Lily arrives in town she upends his world, forcing him to confront the truth that dangerous men have gained too much power while good men turn a blind eye.

Vexing but persuasive, Lily soon secures Connell’s help, drawing them ever closer to each other. Will standing for what’s right cost them both everything?

My Thoughts

In Unending Devotion 18 year old Lily is traveling through the lumber camps in Michigan searching for her lost sister. Lily is traveling with Oren a photographer who takes photographs of the shanty boys who work in the lumber camps. Lily helps Oren to develop the photographs. When she is not working she is busy searching the taverns for her missing sister and helping young women leave a life of prostitution.

Lily meets Connell and the adventure begins. Connell is the son of a lumber business owner and is determined to increase his father’s fortune all the while turning a blind eye to how bad the town has become. After all what can he do to change it?

Lily is persistent and very determined to find her sister and get her out of the horrid life of prostitution and human trafficking. She vows to never stop searching for her sister.

Connell eventually helps Lily and they are put in some very precarious situations where their very lives are at stake. Can they survive? Do they find Lily’s sister. Unending Devotion is worth the read to discover what happens.

I thought Unending Devotion was a great read. The story deals with the serious reality of prostitution and human trafficking that took place in the 1800’s. I really loved Lily in spite of her impetuous nature. I admired that she was not afraid to take a stand for what was right even though she was putting herself smack in the middle of danger.  Connell was a true hero and a real honest and honorable man realizing that he needed to do the right thing in helping Lily rescue young girls from a very bad fate.
