Typecrush {Review}

Our family loves to play games together and we own all types of games. From card games to board games we just love them! When I first saw Typecrush I was intrigued. It seemed so simple.

What is included:

  • a metal can containing 98 letter discs
  • two letter charts, plus the one on the side of the can
  • the rules

About those rules. There is only one. Yes just ONE! Whoever solves the word first gets to choose the next word. That’s it. If you’d like more rules—you’re free to make up your own. (from the Typecrush website)

It is really that simple.  To be completely honest I wondered how fun and exciting this game was going to be? There really was not much to the game at all. I really could not wrap my mind around the simplicity of the game and how it would challenge my kids.  I really did not think the boys were going to be very thrilled with it

To play someone comes up with a word grabs the correct discs to spell the word, turns them facedown while the other players guess what the word is using the letter charts.  As correct letters are guessed the player with the word turns the discs over to reveal the letters. The charts are color coded to match the letter discs.

From the Typecrush website: Typecrush™ is a word game based on letter frequency analysis—how frequently letters appear in the English language. It's kind of like a color-coded hangman, but way more entertaining and educational.

To my surprise they loved it! I loved it too! Our first game lasted well over an hour! The boys were having so much fun coming up with words that they each got out dictionaries to come up with new words!

What I like about it is the simple nature of it. While it seems like a really simple game, it can be as easy or as challenging as you (and your opponents) want to make it! You are only limited by your imagination.

Typecrush is recommended for ages seven and up but I could easily see a younger child playing along.  I think it would be even more fun with a group or even creating teams to play!

A great benefit I have found is that the boys love using Typecrush for spelling practice and review! They are learning while they play! What better combination is there when play and learning are working hand in hand!

The Typecrush game is $25.00 with free shipping. Typecrush is made and assembled in the USA and made from 100% recycled materials.
