Apologia: A Light for my Path An ABC Book Based on Psalm 119 {Review}

ApologiaALightformyPath

It is no secret that our family loves books! If you dropped in for a visit you would find bookshelves in almost every room of our home! We have an abundance of picture books, chapter books and reference books! Fiction and non-fiction. Books for kids and books for grown ups! You get the idea!

The newest book that we have added to our collection is A Light for my Path An ABC Book Based on Psalm 119 by Apologia! We love Apologia too! They have fabulous products, we use several of their products in our home. We have fallen in love with this new book!

A Light for my Path is written by Davis Carman and illustrated by Alice Ratterree.

In the beginning of the book you will find a section of helpful tips on several ways to use this book with your child. The book encourages reading aloud to your child, teaching the alphabet, teaching the difference between capital and lowercase letters and teaching God’s word to your child.

There is also a list that can be used as a quick reference to help you identify each plant or animal and the word that describes one of God’s attributes that corresponds with each letter. For example in the photo below you see a ladybug which represents the letter L. However you will not find the word Ladybug written anywhere on the page.

What you will find on each page is the following statement: God’s word, law, statutes, decrees, commands and precepts are: In this case it is the word Light also representing the letter L. (see picture below) Each page will give you one word that describes these attributes about God.

On each page you will also find a picture of the previous plant or animal. For example in the picture below in the L page you see a Koala bear in the tree (top of left page) from the previous K page. Kaden loved this element of the book! The beginning of the book shows a picture of an Ant for the letter A. When you get to the last page of the alphabet the letter Z there is a zebra and at the at the top of the page you will see a tiny ant! You have come full circle!

The last 22 pages of the book have Psalm 119 written out in it’s entirety. (the longest chapter in the Bible) Un addition you will find one character of the entire Hebrew alphabet and it’s proper pronunciation at the top of each page. What a wonderful resource! I think I my boys and I will memorize Psalm 119 together and the Hebrew alphabet together!

Top left: part of Psalm 119 and the Hebrew alphabet. The L page with a drawing of a ladybug and Light representing the letter L. (Can you see the Koala in the left top corner?) Kaden’s favorite page is the J page with the jellyfish!

When I say beautifully illustrated I am not exaggerating. Oh my! The illustrations are such a joy to look at! The color drawings are just stunning! (click on the picture to enlarge)

The most important part of this book in my opinion is that the book is meant to teach our children the importance of learning and knowing God’s word and applying to our everyday lives!

Apologia has put out a wonderful quality book that is already being well loved in our home! I think that this book would make a wonderful addition to a home library and would make a wonderful gift!
